‘A Matter of Reciprocity’: Federal Program Still Seeks Lawyers' Help on Int’l Child Abduction Cases

Attorneys with Atlanta-founded Kilpatrick have a long history of advocacy tied to the program. In fact, Kilpatrick attorneys literally wrote the book that first guided attorneys nationwide through the unique process of handling such international child abduction cases, said Tamara Caldas, pro bono partner for Kilpatrick.

Caldas said Kilpatrick was one of the first U.S. firms to participate and was its most prolific legal participant for a few years, including serving as a mentor to other firms about the program.

In 2007, Kilpatrick produced and later revised a publication titled “Litigating International Child Abduction Cases Under the Hague Convention” for the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children—which was handling incoming abduction cases before the Department of State began overseeing the program in April 2008.
